Green Woodworking...

What is green woodworking ?

We are guaranteed to be asked this at least a dozen times at nearly every event we do. Green Woodworking is the use of green wood, this is not a type of tree as many people think but the state of the wood, green wood is basically the wood from freshly felled trees. In this fresh state wood can be turned using a leg powered pole lathe and worked using a variety of hand tools, easily. One thing people notice with turned green wood is that the finish is incredibly smooth with little need for further finishing. Over the century's our ancestors turned a whole variety of objects using green wood on a pole lathes, everything from chair parts, kitchen-ware including bowls(wood for bowls was left to mellow or dry out a bit). Even when you put the pole lathe aside green wood was used for numerous things such as the construction of buildings, bridges, benches and much much more.
